Oscar winner Marion Cotillard introduces a new product to help women be taken more seriously in the workplace by wearing breasts on their foreheads. Humor is always buried in reality and this is a prime example. My first experience with a dropped, intense gaze was from a high school teacher, it was intimidating.

Do you think women invite stares by what they wear or do you feel that women should be able to wear low cut blouses without garnering attention? (I’m only referring to plunging necklines here, not your typical office wear.)

  1. Snoring is acceptable again
  2. You can sleep across the width of your bed.
  3. You confirm that the reasons you are leaving your spouse are accurate.
  4. All your insecurities are laid on the table so you always have a dining partner
  5. You develop a new appreciation for the movies “Shirley Valentine” & “Fight Club” (in that order)
  6. All the things you didn’t work on become glaring possibilities for improvement.
  7. If you suspect your children are going to have issues, they become obvious.
  8. People EXPECT you to you refer to your ex-partner as “the Ass” or any other number of pet names.
  9. You have a grass is greener mentality and you’re sure it’s accurate.
  10. Not only is the glass half full but you have an opportunity to throw it.

While managing retail boutiques in the 80′s I knew then that our size 12 to 16′s sold out a lot faster than our size 6 to 10′s. Most women didn’t look like the emaciated models that were on tv, in magazines and for whom they seemed to design clothes for. Fortunately, companies caught onto this double-digit sized market, and there are some half-decent fashion choices for larger women now.

What surprised me over the past 20 years is that media hasn’t become more realistic towards women, they’ve instead begun to inflict the same stereotypes on men. There is one company that stands out as different from the typical image advertising barrage and as a result has my ongoing respect. I’m referring to Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty. I love their advertising. I make a point of stopping to watch the commercials when they’re on. No other company has gotten that much attention from me over so many years.

My neighbor sent me the following video via email. It is meant to be funny but comedian Anita Renfroe’s message is a great one. Regardless of what stage of life you are in, take the time to appreciate and love who you are and how you look. “Make peace with it.”
