What Does the Future Hold for my 17 Year Old?

Brett birthday 2 Today I was hit by a time-marking truck. My son turned seventeen, he’s in his last year of high school. It barely seems like I’ve been out of high school myself!

In thinking back to the advice I got at his age, I would tell my son something different. There is no such thing as job security anymore, so choose to do what makes you happy. The job you want may not be in existence yet. Go to school to learn work ethic, keep your mind and options open for the future. Better yet, create the job you want!

If you have children that will be or have graduated from high school recently, what career advice are you giving them? Has the economy or the instability of jobs changed your views?

About the Author: Raised with hopes, dreams and a desire to make my mark on the world, I set out with excitement and the desire to contribute to the "Greater Good." I took a side trip to raise children and support my husband's career only to realize that "I" got lost along the way. I believe we could have traveled together if we'd both understood the importance of equality and the necessity of evolving roles in the family. My dream is that in the future, all couples will understand the importance of supporting each other fully in word AND deed so each can live in a respectful relationship filled with truth and love. 1. Hey mom, I don’t read your blog much, so that is why I am just stumbling across this now. Thank you so much! I know I am a couple months late, but this still means a lot. Good advice, you have helped guide me my whole life and have really never been wrong on the importance of being happy. You are an extremely good writer and person and I know it will get you really far. I actually envy your writing skills quite a lot. Anyway, I love you, and thank you so much. You’re the best.
